My first scramble.
It was gorgeous at the top--great views in all directions. We even got buzzed by a glider.
It was a snow scramble, which means that we were able to bypass miles of switchbacks by taking off over the snow to get to the summit.
The summit was a long grassy ridge.
It looks all brown in the photos, but there will bunches of little purple flowers an the ground and a few little yellow ones that looked sort of like buttercups.

An afternoon walking the dry hills between Yakima and Ellensburg.
If you're ever driving between Yakima and Ellensburg and have extra time, taking Canyonn Road (HWY 821?) is a great diversion. The speed limit is slow (45mph), but it is a lovely drive along the Yakima River and much more scenic that I-82.
The road doesn't take you to the top of the Butte, where these photos were taken, but I didn't take any photos when I was down by the road along the river.
